Open Letter of Complaint from the Iranian Community in Hamburg
to the Organizers of the Munich Security Conference and the Hamburg Foreign Office
Hamburg, February 13, 2025
Dear Sir/Madam,
We, the Iranian community in Hamburg, are deeply dismayed to learn that Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi has once again been excluded from attending the Munich Security Conference. This decision has caused widespread dismay among Iranians both in Germany and around the world. It reinforces the impression that the conference has yielded to political pressure from the Islamic Republic of Iran—a regime notorious for severe human rights abuses and brutal oppression.
We question the message this decision sends to the Iranian opposition and the millions of people courageously standing up against the regime in Tehran. The Munich Security Conference prides itself on being a platform for open and honest dialogue on global security and stability. How can it be that those who advocate for freedom, democracy, and human rights are the ones excluded?
We therefore call on you to reconsider your decision and allow Crown Prince Reza Pahlavi the opportunity to present his position at the Munich Security Conference. It is crucial that not only representatives of authoritarian regimes but also the legitimate voices of the opposition are heard.
We urge you to take your responsibility toward the global democratic community and particularly toward the people of Iran seriously. Do not let the oppressors decide who represents the oppressed.
Sincerely,
Hope-Association for the Iranian Community in Hamburg
